Rasheed Wallace vs. PJ Brown.

Sheed all the way. As long as he keeps the postage stamps at home. No mailing in please Sheed?

Advantage: Detroit

This is just silly. Of course Rasheed is better. The comparison should be between Sheed and Nocioni, because although PJ Brown starts, he gets less minutes and scores less than Nocioni. This is a situation where a coach takes a starter and brings him off of the bench to give the bench an identity and a real scoring threat.

However, PJ Brown is not stupid. He is like a Tony Battie. Very unspectacular, but can hit a wide open 10-footer if everyone forgets about him. Better look out though, cause he still averages 10 boards per 40 minutes. It’s just a question of how much attention we want to pay him.

Edge- Sheed by a country mile. Especially because of how he played against Orlando.

Advantage: Detroit

This one is a no brainer. I actually really like P.J., and think he’d be great coming off of our bench. But he isn’t, he’s going up against Sheed.

Other than the 3 FT categories, which are almost dead even in each, Sheed dominates Brown across the board.

Wallace will beat Brown like a rented mule. GuaranSheed. “You can quote me. Put it on the back page, front page, whatever.”

Advantage: Detroit

Sheed seems focused and on a mission in these playoffs thus far. This series should provide him with an opportunity to avg 20-10. PJ Brown is old and slow but is a big body, however, Sheed can not get lazy and settle for threes, ONLY! He should be able to draw a double team on the block, and should look for a cutter going to the hoop, or turn away from the double and swish that 10-12 foot jumper.

PJ Brown is a veteran and he knows how to rebound and do the little things. Some of those little things might be to bait Sheed into a skirmish.

Don’t fall for it Sheed. Please no techs!

Advantage: Detroit

C’mon!

Rasheed Wallace.

I don’t feel this is as big of a lopsided matchup as most assuredly think.

PJ Brown is a deceptively quick defender and he has enough size in the post to convince Wallace that the three point line is where he needs to be.

If Wallace decides to jack up treys rather than tough it out in the paint it will bode ill for the Pistons. Quick shots and ill advised threes will not go Detroit’s way in controlling the tempo of the game, which will be key. Consequently, the way this matchup is officiated from game to game could be huge for either team.

Advantage: Detroit

P.J. gave the Bulls a nice X-factor in a couple of their wins over Miami by reliably hitting on the few open jumpers he was getting, but the Pistons obviously have the edge in this match-up. Brown averages about 20 minutes per game, so Rasheed might spend 40-50% of his time on the court matched up against other players anyway.

Advantage: Detroit

Rasheed Wallace has a big advantage in this matchup, especially if the “good” Wallace shows up. Rasheed will be needed big-time on both ends of the floor if the Pistons hope to win this series. PJ Brown will start games, but he probably won’t be playing starter minutes in this series.

Advantage: Detroit

Rasheed Wallace by far. Better passer, rebounder, scorer, and defender. Rasheed must stay in the game though, and the offense should be run through him to fully utilize this advantage. Sheed must do good on the boards because both Brown and Ben will crash the glass.

Advantage: Detroit

And just when it was all getting too depressing, finally a clear winner for the Pistons. PJ stepped up against the Heat, nearly to the level of Deng, but Sheed was no slouch either. Sheed can shoot over anyone on the Bulls squad and can make things very tough on them.

Sheed will also have to play center field though and could pick up some cheap fouls on guard drives. Still, look for a big series doing both the little things and the big things.

Advantage: Detroit

The Low

While PJ Brown is a heck of a defender, and even better rebounder, and a serviceable shooter from 10 ft., he will not be able to contain Rasheed Wallace and his ability to spread the floor and pretty much exist as an offensive threat anywhere on the court. Brown may edge Wallace in rebounding, however, the point production and help defense that Wallace provides will far exceed the contribution that Brown can provide for the Bulls.

Advantage: Detroit

Mercury

Brown being past his prime has become more of a spot up shooter (reliable shot), yet he is still hard to keep off the glass… he’s a garbage collector and proud of it.
Rasheed is the Pistons rhythm player known for large performance swings. When his outside game is working he becomes extremely dangerous. When he achieves inside position there are very few players that can block his shot with his high release. He possesses an excellent drop step and fade away shot (often going for the bank shot). Unselfish player.

Advantage: Detroit
